The second half of the racing for Riverina Point Score will be commencing on the 13th September. Griffith are holding the first stage and  the course is the usual 60km out and back loop.

All of these races will be run under a scratch race format. There are 5 road stages and one Time Trial in two months so the interest level should remain high.

Simon Haworth from Wagga has put a great deal of effort into setting up this format and in particularly the website. http://www.riverinainterclubracing.com will be the point for all the information you need. Just a point to note, the link for the second series is on the right.

The stages are:
13 September - Griffith 60km
21 September - Albury Wodonga (Bellbridge Course) 66km
12 October - Wagga Wagga (what was known as Riverina Champs with RR and TT) 62/40 and 14/10km.
18 October - Cootamundra 56km
26 October - Coolamon 64km

Glenellan Scratch Races

This Saturday (19th July) the club race is out on the Glenellan Circuit. Part of this circuit is used in the Wagga to Albury, in particular the climb coming out of Walla.

Racing starts at 2pm and anyone who wants an escort out there, be at the Lavington Hall at the Wagga to Albury finish by 1pm.

The first race on this circuit was well received. It may not be as hard as it is a scratch race (contentious I know).

Tour De France In Numbers
For anyone that is interested in a read, cyclingpeaks.com have the power files from aussie Adam Hansen (Team Columbia). Hansen is a fellow computer nerd and has been providing live data to the www.srm.de website.

These files detail the effort put out by Adam and a few other selected riders from Team Columbia. There are also files from Mark Cavendish' win in stage 5. George Hincapie and Marcus Burghardt as well as Adam Hansen have the files analysed by Hunter Allen Phd.

Quite and interesting read and could you all consider the statisticians motto: In God we trust, all others bring numbers.

For the second year in a row we went into the last stage with first and second on GC locked on points. However this year we had a leader on a count back, Carl Henman. Second place,  Rohan Taylor to take overall victory, had to get to the front of the race and then finish in the points in front of Carl to take overall honors. Rohan's bid for victory was helped a little by a strong scratch bunch that were determined to not only catch Rohan but the front of field. All the contender were in amongst the 60 + riders bearing down on the finish line. Robert Hall, Paul Clancy & Michael Washington all needed to win the stage and have Rohan and Carl finish out of the top 10 to take the Tour Victory.

Unfortunately the Junior World Championship bound Alastair Louutit & Michael Matthews wanted the stage win as well. The Canberra back markers all combined to take out the top 5  places and dashed any chance of Paul,  Robert and Michael had of a Tour Victory. Nonetheless Rohan saw his best chance of getting in the points was to hang onto the back of the scratch markers and hope for the best in the difficult up hill sprint.

Carl unfortunately could only watch like Lauret Fignon did when Greg Lemond reduced a 50 second deficit into an 8 second win on the last stage of the 1989 Tour de France. I am sure the loss will only make Carl more determined to take overall victory in 2009.

In the other categories, Brodie Pearse was in the points and consolidated his lead in the Best Young Rider category. Bec Barwick and Lionel Harmer both hung onto the victory in the Female and 45+ category despite missing the last stage due to illness. Team Kidsons Tarmach took overall victory in the teams section.

The Coveted Barry O'Hagan Club trophy was won by the Wagga Wagga Club after Albury/Wodonga CC have dominated it for the last 5 years. Wagga CC took the title with a combined total of their top five riders being 105 points. Wagga had 26 riders contest the Tour. In second place was Griffith CC with 75 points. They had 27 Riders participate in the Tour. Third was Albury/Wodonga CC on 74 points. They had 36 riders participate in the Tour. Fourth was Cootamundra CC with 55 points and they had 32 riders contest the Tour. Fifth was Tolland CC with 22 Points and they had 7 riders contest the Tour. Just for interest sake, Canberra CC had 49 Points and had 20 riders participate. Tuggeranong Vikings had 28 points with 7 riders having a go in the Tour.

The Top 10 in GC and the the top 3 in each category received prize money for their efforts. In all they took home a share in all most $2400 on the day. Around $4500 was paid out in prize money across the 5 stages. A total of nearly $7000. We had a 194 riders participate in the 2008 Tour.

The fun part of the day was giving away a set of awesome set C50A carbon wheels from TOKEN. and a set of fantastic lights from Niterider. For every stage you rode you got a ticket in the draw for both items. The only catch was that you had to be at the presentation to win the prizes. The first name drawn out for the wheels was Laurie Lyster from Wangeratta CC, not there. The next was Hamish Nott from Coota CC, not there. The next name was James Hogan, he raced on the day but did not come to the presentation, missed out. The next name was Renee Hamilton from Canberra CC and yes she was there. We had a winner! It was Renee's first race, she had her first fall and won a set of wheels all in the same day. A real day of mixed emotions.  Congratulations to Renee.

We then drew the Sol LED NiMH lights valued at $290 from Niterider and we had a winner with the first ticket, Shane Way from Albury/Wodonga CC.

Thanks heaps to TOKEN, Niterider, Nugan Estate Wine and Kidsons Cycles for their contribution for the second year running. Their involvement has certainly had a positive impact on our enjoyment. If you are looking for any bike products or Wine then please give TOKEN, Niterider, Nugan Estate and Kidsons Cycles some consideration when making your next purchase.

Also please remember that all this would not be possible without our Volunteers. You all know who you are, THANK YOU!

All the results are on the Results 2008 page and I have put up photo's from stage 5. I still have some other photo's to put up from the Butch Menz.

Please keep your eye on the Wagga CC, Griffith CC and Albury/Wodonga CC websites for details of a graded scratch series coming up in spring. The proposed dates are: Griffith CC 13 Sep 2008, AWCC 20 Sep 2008, Wagga CC 12 Oct 2008, Coota CC 18 Oct 2008 and Tolland CC 26 Oct 2008. The series will be followed by the Wagga to Albury on the 9 Nov 2008.
